Since its modest beginnings in 1991, EBM has charted an exceptional trajectory through three decades of innovation and commitment. From its bold beginnings to its current status as a major player in healthcare, our history has been marked by perseverance, adaptability, and a constant commitment to our clients.

    Some Key Facts

    – 1992 –

In January 1992, the study of the physical principles and equipment related to electro-magnetotherapy began; the report of this study was submitted in March 1992.

In March 1992, the company Electro-Santé Inc. commissioned the firm GID Design to conduct a feasibility study for an electromagnetic stimulator. This study was completed on April 18, 1992.

In April 1992, a project for the design and commercialization of an electromagnetic stimulator was presented to the National Research Council of Canada, which confirmed its participation in the project by granting a second subsidy.

In May 1992, a contract was awarded to the firm GID Design to construct an electromagnetic stimulator.

In June 1992, consulting scientists Mr. Gaston Picard, biologist, Mr. Jacques Goulet, microbiologist, Mr. Noel Desjardins, pharmacist, and Dr. Jean Charlebois attended the 1st World Congress on Electricity and Magnetism in Biology and Medicine in Orlando, Florida.

    – 1991 –

In 1991, Health and Welfare Canada recognized the scientific articles that supported the effectiveness of electromagnetic waves to promote bone regeneration in cases of non-consolidated fractures. They mentioned that there is promising data for their applications in wound healing and osteoporosis.

In 1991, Mr. Paul Demers met with three professors from the University of Laval: Dr. Gaston Picard in biology, Dr. Jacques Goulet in microbiology, and Dr. Roger A. Lessard in physics. This meeting focused on the study of a research and development project for an electromagnetic stimulator to stimulate cellular regeneration.

On November 25, 1991, Mr. Paul Demers incorporated the company Electro-Santé Inc. under Part 1A of the Companies Act, now incorporated as Electro Bio-Mag since January 1999.

In December 1991, the National Research Council of Canada confirmed its participation in the project by granting an initial subsidy.

    – 1993 –

In February 1993, the Bio-Stim® system is a registered medical device with the Health and Wellness Canada department according to the requirements of article 24 of the Medical Devices Regulation.

    – 1997 –

In May 1997, Dr. Jean Charlebois attended the 2nd World Congress on Electricity and Magnetism in Biology and Medicine in Bologna, Italy.

    - 1998 –

In September 1998, Electro Santé Inc. (Electro Bio-Mag Inc.) commissioned two scientific studies by the laboratory Biophage Inc.

1st protocol: On the effects of a pulsed magnetic field generated by the Bio-Stim® system on the immune system of normal volunteer subjects.

    Objective: Stimulate the immune system

    Device: Bio-Stim® system

2nd Protocol: On the effects of the pulsed magnetic field generated by the Bio-Stim® system on the proliferation of primary cells from mouse calvarium and osteoblastic cell lines.

    Objective: Stimulate bone cells

    Device: Bio-Stim® system

    – 2001 –

In August 2001, Electro Bio-Mag Inc. contributed to a study by the Agency for the Evaluation of Technologies and Medical Interventions (AETMIS); this study, which was requested by the Collège des Médecins du Québec, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST), one of the therapeutic applications of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF), for pain relief and improved joint function in cases of osteoarthritis.

The results of the examined studies strongly suggest an analgesic (pain-relieving) effect and improved joint function for cases of osteoarthritis.

    - 2006 -

In December 2006, Électro Bio-Mag Inc. obtained approval from Health Canada's Therapeutic Products Directorate for the Bio-Stim® system as a medical device under license No. 72870.

    – 2009 –

In 2009, Électro Bio-Mag Inc. took the initiative to submit a communication topic to the Bio Electro Magnetic Society (BEMS). The congress of this society was held in Davos, Switzerland under the auspices of BioEM 2009 from June 14 to 19, 2009.

The communication, in the form of a poster presented by Dr. Jean Charlebois, a medical consultant for Électro Bio-Mag Inc., focused on the treatment with the Bio-Stim System of a patient involved in a car accident and presenting permanent sequelae three years after the accident.
